Hosting A Dodgeball Tournament

Hosting A Dodgeball Tournament

Whether you are hosting a dodgeball event for a corporate event or for team building activity, there are a few things that you should know. Things like the size of the court, how many players, what type of balls or even how to keep score are all things you should look at before hosting your dodgeball event.

FAQ About Hosting Your Own Dodgeball Event

How many players can play on a regulation size dodgeball court?

Teams consist of 6 players with up to four substitutes.

What types of different games are there when playing dodgeball?

Elimination Game – all players play until all opponents have been eliminated.

Timed Game – A pre-determined time limit is set for the game. Once the time limit is reached, the team with the most players remaining wins the game.

Scored Game – The game is played as either a elimination or timed game with points awarded for the number of players remaining “in” the end of each game.

What size is a regulation size dodgeball?

According to the National Dodgeball League rules you should use 6 “blockers” which are 8.5″ or 22cm in diameter.

What are the rules of dodgeball?

Everyone loves the movie “Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story.” In the movie, the character Patches O’Houlihan says the five D’s of dodgeball are “dodge, duck, dip, dive, and dodge.”  In reality, there are a lot more rules to the game than that, but all the rules basically boil down to the 5 d’s. If you would like to read the official rules, check out this site here: http://thendl.com/thendl-dodgeball-101.asp

Do you need to have an official ref?

Yes, having an official ref makes it easier to determine who is still in the game and who is out. The ref should be independent and not a member of any team to ensure there is no bias in the judging process.

How to keep track of scores?

You can use bracket sheets or scoreboards. You can find bracket sheets here: Print Your Own Bracket Sheets.
You can also rent a leaderboard system like here: Digital Leaderboard
